Musical Ride

In 1887, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) created a spectacle which today is known around the world as the Musical Ride. The riders are first and foremost police officers, who volunteer for duty with the Musical Ride, to help promote the RCMP's image throughout Canada and internationally; the Ride has become an important part of our heritage and national identity.

The Musical Ride is performed by a full troop of thirty-two officers and horses, and consists of a variety of cavalry drills choreographed to music. One of the more familiar Musical Ride formations is the "Dome," once featured on the back of the Canadian fifty-dollar bill.

These images were taken in the nearby town of Lewisporte, when The Musical Ride came to perform on July 26, 2011. A terrific show that I hope to attend again when they next return to Atlantic Canada.
